In 1977, the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in "Testing And Uses of Chemical and Biological Agents by the Intelligence Community" stated: "MKNAOMI, the Fort Detrick CIA project, provides another example where efforts to protect the security of agency activities overwhelmed administrative controls. No written records of the transfer of agents such as anthrax or shellfish toxin were kept, 'because of the sensitivity of the area and the desire to keep any possible use of materials like this recordless'. (Sidney Gottlieb testimony, 10/18/75. Hearings., Vol. 1. p. 51.) The result was that the Agency had no way of determining what materials were on hand, and could not be certain whether delivery systems such as dart guns, or deadly substances such as cobra venom had been issued to the field." "In the 1950's, American inmates were intentionally infected with live cancer cells, herpes, ringworm, hepatitis, and syphilis in the name of medical research. When the experiments were uncovered in the 1970's, they were stopped,..." (NY Times 10/16/99). Recently there has been research documenting the connection between the herpes virus with schizophrenia. "One study used a trove of frozen blood that were (sic) collected from 50,000 pregnant women at hospitals around the country in the 1950's and 60's." (Washington Post 11/9/99). Is there any connection between these two research programs? Was there any connection between these researchers and LSD-schizophrenia researchers? (MKULTRA). THE FACTS |

Traditional Chinese Medicine has long recognized the heart-mind connection.The vagus nerve is the heart of this connection: 1) The heart "controls the blood vessels and is responsible for moving the Blood. It also stores the Spirit and is therefore the Organ most frequently associated with mental processes." (Acupuncture: A Comprehensive Text Pg. 13. John O'Connor and Dan Bensky). 2) P Nogier, the father of modern auricular acupuncture, wrote more than twenty years ago about the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture in the treatment of vagal tonality (Handbook to Auriculotherapy.) 3) In 1996, NIH stated that acupuncture affects the hypothalamus gland. There have been animal studies demonstrating weight reduction through the activation of hypothalamic neurons by stimulation of the vagus nerve (Clinical Acupuncture: Scientific Basis). 4) By stimulating the vagal nerve, acupuncture has been reported to lower blood pressure and reduce depression, both factors in heart disease.(Biol. Psychiatry, February 2000; Neurosci. Lett, May 1997; and other case studies 1969-2000) 5) Many of the formulas in the Chinese pharmacopoeia that treat heart disease also treat depression, paranoia and other emotional disorders. The FDA denigrates Chinese Herbals without encouraging the production of drugs recognizing the heart brain connection. 6) In 1971, NIH undertook investigations to understand the acupuncture mechanism to determine any relationship between hypnosis and acupuncture anesthesia. |

OTHER VAGUS NERVE FACTS |

7) Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter transported by the vagus nerve. Henry Lai's cell phone research at the University of Washington as well as other research has addressed magnetic radiation's effect on acetylcholine. 8) Researchers at the UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas have determined that some veterans suffering Gulf War Syndrome were exposed to chemicals (e.g. organophosphates, pyridostigmine bromide ) that inhibit cholinesterase, an enzyme important to nervous system utilization of acetylcholine. They have also concluded that those veterans with symptoms of dizziness are suffering from brainstem injury and deliver similar test results as those who are exposed to sarin gas. Studies have shown that sarin exposure impairs acetylcholine process and may "play an important role in neuropathological abnormalities in the central nervous system. (Duke University study. Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health. Dec. 2000). In the United Kingdom, a farmer accused of murder used as a defense his exposure to organophosphates/and their behavior altering effects. (Independent 1996). 9) The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence of the 94th Congress released documents demonstrating that Mkultra, the CIA's Behavioral Modification Program, sought curare like substances. Since curare is an antagonist of acetylcholine, it is logical to assume there was an interest in acetylcholine. An interest in acetylcholine would lead researchers to the vagus nerve. 10) In the sixties and early seventies, there were many Soviet scientific studies, some concerning the regeneration of human vagus nerves, others involving the effects of EMR (1974 Warsaw Conference). It is implausible that our research institutions weren't also interested in these topics. |

11) For over 8 years, I have argued, since the 70's there have been involuntary human experimentation programs concerned with the mechanisms and effectiveness of Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and the pharmacopoeia). 12) Many Human Experimentation programs have a lifespan of thirty to forty years before they are exposed(e.g. Tuskegee, Radiation, Mkultra). These programs involved more than doctors and scientists but required participation from diverse members of society. What happened to those whistleblowers offended by the immorality and illegalities of these programs? Did domestic counterintelligence programs like Cointelpro extend the lifespan of these programs whose very existence is an affront and a threat to democracy? All experimentation programs must be exposed to access the damage resulting from secrecy. In order to create a sound and enlightened medicine, the foundation of tomorrow's medicines cannot be based on lies, disease and cover-ups. Richard Perlman |

In the early 1970’s NIH, NIMH and the Tennessee Department of Mental Health1 supported Ritalin experiments where the subjects (“12 manic and 24 actively ill schizophrenic patients”) were exposed to Ritalin (methylphenidate), an amphetamine like stimulant and physostigmine, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. In “Antogonistic Effects of Physostigmine & Methylphenidate in Man” published in the American Journal of Psychiatry (December 1973), the authors2 postulate a balance between “cholinergic and adrenergic factors” by conducting experiments resulting in extreme mood swings for their subjects. They conclude that Ritalin “intensified manic symptoms in manic patients, increased the symptoms of psychosis in schizophrenic but not manic patients, and produced a marked increase in activation (noted especially in the items ‘talkedness’ and ‘interactions’ in all patients.” (Pg. 1374). An earlier 1958 Ritalin study also documented an increased verbalization phenomenon. “One patient, G.L. a 54 year old female revealed hitherto repressed material, not obtained before when the combination of sodium amytal and methamphetamine was administered. The patient could not explain why she had not revealed this censored material before except that her affective state seemed different on this last occasion.” (American Journal of Psychiatry, April 1958, Pg. 944) The development of drugs to facilitate interrogation (truth serums) was one of the goals of MKULTRA, the CIA’s mind control program. Was Ritalin research connected with this program? Was it viewed as an anti-crime aide? How was Ritalin’s use envisioned? CIBA in its 1960’s advertisements in the American Journal of Psychiatry did not envision Ritalin as a treatment for Attention Deficit Hypersensitivity Disorder (ADHD). Its targeted users

effects: Perhaps, Kafka would best understand its metamorphosis to a medication for children with learning disabilities. RITALIN + ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION + ORGANOPHOSPHATES = 21ST CENTURY ILLNESS? Is this cocktail an explanation for the increase in diabetes and mental illness? With new diseases like Mad Cow Disease and Alzheimer’s, with an increase in mental and endocrine disorders (as the surgeon general has noted) and with a half century of documented cerebral cortex programs, it is important to ask what did the government know and when did it know it? In my March 14th HILL advertisement, I addressed
organophosphates and electromagnetic radiation and their effect on acylcholine
systems and proposed the existence of hitherto unexposed cerebral cortex
research in the 1960’s and 1970’s. This American Journal of Psychiatry
article verifies this assertion and the NIH and NIMH
sponsorship proves the need for a thorough examination of the Ritalin
history. Furthermore, the authors’ recognition of the “balance between
adrenergic and cholinergic factors” is significant in its parallels with the
Asian practitioner’s balancing ying and yang. Along with previous
documentation of NIH interest in acupuncture mechanisms, it is very
likely 1973 researchers investigated this parallel. Members of Congress,
Journalists, Citizens it is time to reinvestigate MKULTRA and all the
cerebral cortex programs. (And ask yourselves why an ad like this is

Since the 1960s medical studies have implicated herpes virus with mental illness, particularly depression, as well as a multitude of other illnesses including cancer, ms, diabetes. Yet physicians in the 1960s and 1970s rarely warned their patients of the dangers of transmission. “Just a cold sore.” Herpes was portrayed as an inconvenience and annoyance, never a danger. THE FACTS1. As early as 1964, Shearer and Finch in The New England Journal of Medicine reported on the “Periodic Organic Psychosis Associated With Recurrent Herpes Simplex (September 3, 1964, No. 10).” 2. Nahmias, Alfred and Korones noted in a study in Advances in Pediatrics (Vol. 17, 1970) that the “major source of the virus to the infant is the mother’s infected genital tract close to the time of delivery.” 3. On June 15-16 1972, the National Institute of Health held a workshop on the “Treatment and the prevention of Herpes Simplex Virus Infections.” The experts agreed steps needed to be taken, but the public was not alerted. Herpes remained a cold sore. THE CONSEQUENCES1. The Herpes epidemic coincides with the increase in diabetes and mental illness. 2. The recognition of the psychological dangers of Herpes coincides with the diagnosis of ADD in children and the prescription of Ritalin for the disorder. In the early 1970s I developed symptoms similar to GWS. In my Hill ads I have argued these programs never ceased which may explain why the names of the researchers and their victims have not been released. The Nazi concentration camp experiments as well as the Japanese biological programs were the original inspiration of these programs. Today’s antiterrorist programs owe much to the last 50 years of U.S. biological and chemical research programs. With each year these programs become more of the United States’ way of life and as a consequence with each year it becomes increasingly more difficult to pose the necessary questions of our constitutionally compromising and ethically compromised health care system. |

Since the publication of our Oct 2 Hill ad documenting the squalene, hypothalamus, and nerve gas parallels between Gulf War Syndrome and U.S.. Chemical Biological programs, no congressional office, no journalist, no physician, no bio-ehicist or attorney has contacted us. We have attempted to communicate with them. One well known bio-ethicist we contacted wrote: "The government and media do not care what happened and I have basically moved on to other things." We believe this attitude is wrong, our government's programs of the past 50 year must be viewed not only as isolated programs but also as a coherent whole. The United States' cranial nerve endocrine programs as exemplified by MKULTRA (mind control) have helped form today's anti-terroriest programs. For the guinea pig, they have turned the United states into a laboratory maze. For all citizens, they have affected life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Many of the ominous aspects documented by Congress in 1970 continue today. I need your help. Senator Kennedy: “Was the NIH involved in any of the research?”
It is Citizen's Against Human Experimentation's postition this technology has been successfully applied to humans and must be exposed and stopped. The public must be made aware of the medical and constitutional consequences of inducing unconsciousness without prior consent of even later awareness for the purpose of 1) Interrogations 2) Searches and seizures. 3) Chemical and biological attacks. 4) Involuntary medical treatments. Dr. Geschickter was involved with many lesser known MKULTRA biological and biochemical projects including the study of 1) Toxic cerebral states e.g. uremic coma, hepatic coma, toxic delirium. 2) The testing of chemical agents “to provoke stress or suppress the stress reaction” in “advanced cancer patients” (1960 Research Proposal, Part of a program to analyze “the hypothalamic and endocrine mechanism of stress and chemical agents that modify it.”) as well as the better known Mkultra studies. With thousands of Gulf War Vets sick from what many physicians have diagnosed as cranial nerve and hypothalamus condition, Citizens Against Human Experimentation again calls for an investigation of the United States cerebral cortex programs. |

Without the support of concerned citizens (legislators, physicians, attorneys, journalists, as well as the concerned electorate) the story of US Biological and Chemical programs will not be told. Citizens should be in awe and never in fear of their government’s programs and should never fear speaking out to protect everyone’s right to health. Programs involving hundreds of thousands of citizens (GAO figure) lasting decades before exposure tell another story. Without your help the truth cannot be told.
